Get to Know Mr. Davis
I am a lifelong learner who enjoys the challenge of mastering new things. As a gifted and talented learner myself, I bring in a deep love for knowledge and its uses into my classroom. Information on my fortunate learning mentality can be found here: autodidact
I have a deep passion for everything related to Earth Science, and have been studying and teaching it for many years. I look forward to working with you and showing you our amazing (but not unique!) planet.
My education background: I attended Martinez Elementary, Bel Air Elementary, Evans Middle School, and Evans High School (class of '99!). I have earned three college degrees, from Augusta State Univ., Capella Univ., and Kennesaw State Univ. I hold a Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Middle Grades Education, Master's degree (M.S.) in Curriculum & Instruction, and my Specialist's degree (Ed.S.) in Instructional Technology.

Class Basics
Our classes are taught using research-based constructivist strategies that are proven to increase learning, engagement, and life skills. A key aspect of these strategies is allowing students to build new knowledge upon their existing knowledge. By using authentic tasks and a variety of student roles, we will work together to meet or exceed all learning goals. The STUDENT is the real focus of my classroom, so he/she must come ready and willing to learn
I incorporate technology into most of our lessons. For this reason, having access to a device is often necessary, but not mandatory. Students will be using 21st century skills in the classroom frequently, including blogging, website building, computer simulations, cloud computing, video production, image sharing, and online collaboration. The class will use CMS's large amount of available technology to support our learning.

Grading Policy and Late Work
I believe in fair grading that scores ability, knowledge, cognitive thought, and supporting evidence. It is vital to make every effort to complete all assignments to be successful in class. Many assignments will be graded using the performance level grading rubric displayed in class.
- Any assignments that are to be graded will be turned into the white basket. Graded assignments will be returned to students within one week of being collected. Extended written responses and projects will take a little longer to grade.
- Assignments can be turned in at any time during the nine weeks. I adopted this policy because sometimes things take longer to get finished, obstacles come up, or students just need extra time. It is STRONGLY advised, however, to turn in all assignments when they are due so that you progress with the class pacing. You will also have less time for corrections or makeup work if you turn in assignments late.
- Graded papers will be returned to the students. I will send out a Remind message when this occurs. I encourage you to ask to see the papers for your review.
- It is the responsibility of the parents and students to stay informed of a student’s progress and grades by logging on to Parent Portal (instructions are available on the school and county websites).
